While Indiana's unemployment rate has improved from the past year, it is still at 7.4%.  WFFT's Brooke Welch spoke with a local woman, Lori Ward, about being laid off from her job a couple of weeks ago.

"Ya know, it's not devastating but it does put a cramp in your lifestyle if you're off too long."

Lori is now attending free workshops at Work-One to help gain new skills to improve her chances of being hired for a better paying job.

"You're getting these jobs, you're getting $7.00 an hour and you really can't live on that either."

Lori's not the only one that has turned these workshops for help.  Jack Myers was a machinist that was laid off 3 months ago.  He's hoping Work-One can help him get back on his feet.

"The mom and pop machine shops are going out of business due to the economy and that's really affected finding a job like I'd like."

The workshops are free and cover a variety of skills needed to start a new career.  Lori is hoping she'll be hired for an even better job than the one she was laid off from.

"I want to get out of doing construction and get into an office or something.  I'm getting a little bit old to be doing construction work now."

If you are out of work or wanting to find a higher paying job, you can attend these free workshops held in many across Northeast Indiana.
