Christmas is a time for family and while most people spend it with loved ones, there were about 100 volunteers at the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission that spent this Christmas serving others.

The Fort Wayne Rescue Mission served around 2,500 meals to the community, all made possible by the help of the volunteers that gave up traditional Christmas at home to spend it helping others.

Layla Fisher explains why she enjoyed helping her grandmother Michelle Nieto serve others at the Rescue Mission instead.

"Christmas is not just having a good time.  It's about having your heart in the right place."

Without people willing to donate their time on Christmas, the meal would not have been possible.

The Rescue Mission serves meals daily, not just on the holidays.  So if you would like to donate your time you can begin by going to their website therescuemission.net and signing up.
