Many of us are getting ready for holiday vacation and want to share updates and pictures with family and friends on social media. However,  ou might want to think twice before posting

Search the word vacation into your favorite social media website and you will see just how easy it is.

“It's something that you really do have to be aware of and you have to take some specific steps to protect yourself,” said John Kaufeld, IPFW social media expert.

Kaufeld says sites like twitter and facebook are perfect for documenting vacations but telling people that you will be gone for the holidays comes with a risk..

“The dangers you run into are a little like posting a sign in the front yard of your house saying, ‘oh by the way I’m going to be gone for the next two weeks,” said Kaufeld.

If you insist on sharing your journey Kaufeld says take plenty of pictures but wait until you are back home before sharing them.

Also, remember to turn of your location services, because if left on you are still telling people that you aren't home.
