Truck drives off Tecumseh Bridge into Maumee, 2 dead.

A Shawnee Construction pick up truck drives off the Tecumseh bridge and a male and female are pronounced dead at the scene.

FORT WAYNE POLICE WERE CALLED TO TECUMSEH BRIDGE AT 7:24 THIS MORNING BECAUSE A CONCERNED DRIVER CALLED EMERGENCY PERSONNEL TO NOTIFY THEM THAT A SECTION OF THE TECUMSEH STREET BRIDGE HAD BEEN NEWLY DAMAGED. UPON ARRIVING AT THE SCENE, AUTHORITIES DISCOVERED A PICK TRUCK SUBMERGED IN THE RIVER AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED OUT THE FORT WAYNE FIRE DEPARTMENTS WATER RESCUE TEAM.

ONCE THE WATER RESCUE TEAM FOUND THE TRUCK, THEY DISCOVERED IT CONTAINED THE BODIES OF A MALE AND FEMALE THAT WERE PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. WHILE IT IS STILL TOO EARLY TO DETERMINE HOW THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED, EVIDENCE SUCH AS THESE SKID MARKS RUNNING INTO THE RAILING WILL BE CLOSELY EXAMINED BY POLICE.

THE TRUCK PULLED FROM THE RIVER WAS OWNED BY SHAWNEE CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING OF FORT WAYNE... WE REACHED OUT TO SHAWNEE CONSTRUCTION PRESIDENT MATT SCHENKEL WHO GAVE US THIS STATEMENT BY PHONE.

GRAPHIC - "WE LOST A VERY VALUABLE EMPLOYEE, AND HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED."

THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME AN ACCIDENT HAS TAKEN PLACE AT THIS LOCATION. JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO THERE WAS ANOTHER FATAL CAR ACCIDENT ON THIS BRIDGE.....A PERSON DIED AFTER THEIR VEHICLE WAS SUBMERGED IN THE MAUMEE....

POLICE JUST RELEASED THE NAMES OF THE DRIVER 53 YEAR OLD MARK STAULTERS, AND HIS PASSENGER 44 YEAR OLD TAMEE STAULTERS....THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO DETERMINE HOW AND WHEN THE ACCIDENT ACTUALLY TOOK PLACE.
