A woman is in custody after a double shooting Thursday night in Van Wert, Ohio. Tamera Menke, 47, was arrested Friday morning and charged with murder.
Authorities in Van Wert searched all night Thursday from the air and on the ground for Tamera Menke. It wasn't until 10 a.m. Friday that police found Menke on her property near the Indiana-Ohio line.
"I was kind of amazed that there was something going on because I saw helicopters in the sky," said Max Case, a neighbor of Menke.
Police were called to the 200 block of S. Fulton St. around 6 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived, police found a man and a woman shot inside a home. One of the victims, Barbara Robinson, died from her injuries.
Police immediately began to search for Tamera Menke, who neighbors say is the daughter of the man who was shot.
"She (Tamera) was jealous and thought that Barb was messing around with her husband but she wasn't that way," said Mearl Densel Sr., a neighbor of the shooting victims.
The condition of the man shot is not known. Neighbors tell WFFT he was shot in the leg and is expected to recover.
"This is a good neighborhood. We have arguments between the neighbors, nothing too physical. It's a really good neighborhood," said Densel.
Authorities spent hours Thursday night searching a wooded area near Menke's home on Brittsan Rd. Friday morning officers with the Van Wert Sheriff's Department arrested Menke leaving a building behind the house. She was dressed in full camouflage and was not armed.
Tamera Menke has been charged with murder in the death of Barbara Robinson. Other charges are pending as the investigation continues.
