The price per gallon of propane is up, from about $2.00 per gallon to nearly $4.00 per gallon in some areas.
It's been a cold year so far for the Midwest, and now a propane shortage in our region is raising concern about how people heat their homes.
Ohio Governor John Kasich has declared a State of Emergency because of this propane shortage. The supply of propane in our region is low because of the strong demand to heat homes in recent sub-zero temperatures.
The price per gallon of propane is up, from about $2.00 per gallon to nearly $4.00 per gallon in some areas. Employees at Bolinger's Propane in Warren recommend that propane customers call to refill a 500 gallon tank when it drops to below 30% full.
Indiana and Ohio have suspended "hours of service" rules that limit the hours truck drivers can spend on the road. The hope is that propane will reach distributors faster to help residents heat their homes.
Bolinger's Propane is only partially filling customer's tanks to make sure there is enough propane to go around. To help conserve propane, employees recommend lowering the thermostat, using alternate heat sources, and layering clothing indoors.
