Parts of the country have already been pounded with snow and its now making its way to our area.  WFFT spoke with The Indiana Department of Transportation and a local hardware store about preparing for winter.

While the snow is expected to hit our southern counties the hardest, WFFT's Charlie De Mar spoke with people who are not taking any risks.  Daniel Cromwell is ready.

"I got a lot of food in the pantry, we got heaters and cords and blankets, everything on standby so if we are to get a good one, I am going to be inside nice and warm", - Daniel Cromwell

The Cromwell's are trying to cut back on their gas bill, so they've been hacking wood with this chain saw and heating their home using a fireplace.

"We were cutting some wood and a bolt came off my chainsaw so we had to come here to get a new bolt."

They came to the Do It Best Hardware Store on Dupont Road where Store Manager Denis Mulligan says, "We have two or different types of jumper cables and emergency road kits which is always important."

Mulligan says he's been busy selling safety supplies for the approaching weather.

"You want to be prepared because when it does now and ice over, then you have to get through it to get somewhere."

Mulligan says to make sure you prepare your car with an emergency kit, an ice scraper, and a flash light.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has also been hearing up, treating the roads for potentially hazardous conditions.

"We are all ready for the storm", says Mary Foster with INDOT and says they are advising people that if you don't have to be out on the roads, don't and to approach the roads with caution.

"Everybody needs to slow down and allow extra time and extra space between vehicles.  Just take it easy."
