With mass shootings and security breaches on the rise throughout our country, one Fort Wayne hospital has taken a serious approach to keeping their staff and patients safe.
Parkview Health has been named number one in Indiana for security among hospitals. Parkview health also ranks 32nd in the country.
For the 4th year in a row, Parkview Health has made Security Incorporated's top 500 list. Director of security at Parkview Health Tom Rhoades explains why a good security team is so important.
"Security across the country is critical right now, we're seeing a lot of things happen. Workplace violence is on the rise," said Tom Rhoades, Director of security at Parkview Health.
An experienced staff of over 100 personnel is a big reason the hospital ranks so highly.
"We have a number of officers that are retired Fort Wayne Police, retired State Troopers, several that are current reserve officers throughout the local area," said Rhoades.
New legislation in Indiana has been passed to have actual police departments in hospitals though a specific timeline has not been set. With the new legislation, police officers at hospitals will attend the Indiana Police Academy for training just like officers at local police departments.
