VERMILLION, S.D. - the Mastodons used a Miranda Kramer gem in the opener, before out-lasting the Coyotes in the nightcap, taking a pair of games from the University of South Dakota by scores of 2-1 and 7-4 in nine innings.
Brittany Kachur had three hits for IPFW (20-8, 4-0 Summit) on the day, with Ashleigh Bousquet and Stephanie Beuther each going 2-for-6, as seven different players had two hits. Kachur and Hillary Kartman each had two RBI's, with Kachur knocking a pair of doubles. Kramer was 2-0 on the day, striking out 19 in 11.1 innings of work, as the Coyotes hit just .189 against her.

In the opener, the match started as a pitcher's duel, with Kramer and South Dakota's (25-14, 8-3 Summit) Erica Denny trading four straight zero's on the scoreboard, with Kramer striking out the side in three of the first four innings of the game.

The Coyotes struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run, before the Mastodons quickly rallied using a bunt from Larissa Franklin, and back-to-back doubles from Kachur and Ashleigh Bousquet to push ahead to a 2-1 advantage.

Neither team would score for the last inning and a half, giving IPFW the 2-1 victory.

Kramer struck out 15 of the game's 21 outs, second-most in school history for a single game, while scattering five hits and one run, without walking a batter. Ashleigh and Alex Bousquet were each 2-for-3, as the twins picked up over half of the team's seven hits in the win.

In the nightcap, the Mastodons struck early with three runs in the top of the first inning on a Kachur double that scored Franklin, before Kartman hit a two-run, bases-loaded single that scored Ashleigh Bousquet and Kachur.

IPFW added what seemed to be an insurance run in the top of the third when the Bousquet's successfully converted a second/home double steal, with Ashleigh Bousquet scoring on the play.

South Dakota closed the gap with a run in the fourth inning, before scoring three in the bottom of the fifth, knotting the score at four apiece.

The next three innings went by without a run, until the top of the ninth when Beuther drew a bases-loaded walk, followed by walk to Kayti Hanson, taking the score to 6-4. A third run came in when Franklin reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Megan Flenniken.

South Dakota loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth; but a groundout to Alex Bousquet at shortstop ended the threat in the game.

Dani Pugh and Kartman were each 2-for-4 in the win, while Kachur was 2-for-6. Kartman drove in two, while Ashleigh Bousquet scored twice.

Kramer picked up the second-game win, coming off the bench to pitch the final 4.1 innings, striking out four and allowing three hits while hitting two batters. Starting pitcher Megan Flenniken went the first 4.2 innings, striking out two while allowing four runs and walking a batter.

The Mastodons return home from the trip, before taking off to Rochester, Mich. to face off against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in a three-game series slated for April 16 and 17.
