A local woman who was the victim of a stalking case, is now turning her traumatic experience into a positive one by educating others. She’s even gaining national attention.

Dawn Hillyer was stalked by her ex-boyfriend for years.  Mike McClellan is serving 10 years for stalking Hillyer.

The couple dated and then split under what Hillyer describes as good terms, but little did she know her life was about to change.

“I started being stalked, my phone started ringing off the hook I got literally hundreds of phone calls back to back to back,” said Hillyer.

McClellan terrorized Hillyer  by hacking her email, robo-calling and sending  threatening messages whenever he had the chance.

“It was unlike any case we've ever tried before,” said Allen County Deputy Prosecutor Christine Neilson.

Allen County Deputy Prosecutor Christine Nielson said Hillyer’s cyber stalking case was a first.

“Mr. McClellan was ahead of his time as far as technology was concerned so we had to get ourselves up to speed,” said Neilson.

Hillyer is now using her traumatizing experience to pay it forward. She is focused on spreading awareness. Monday she will be featured on the Discovery Channels show ‘Stalked.’

“It's allowing me to give a voice to other stalking victims and let people know there are resources,” said Hillyer.
