Inmate Uses Lunch Tray to "Sucker Punch" Allen Co. Guard

“It was basically a sucker punch with a solid plastic tray which knocked him to the ground.”
“You hear about it happening in other cites and things of that nature people don't think it can happen here but obviously it does." - Corporal Jeremy Tinkel, Allen County Sheriff's Department

The Allen County confinement officer  was hit over the head with a lunch tray and then punched and kicked repeatedly by an inmate Christmas morning.

Deadrian Boykins is the inmate charged with battery to a law enforcement officer.  Boykins is behind bars for killing a 17-year old back in April.  He was sentenced for the shooting less than one week ago..

Corporal Jeremy Tinkel with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department says confinement officer Quinton Greer was collecting food trays from H-block, when inmate Boykins turned violent.

“It was basically a sucker punch with a solid plastic tray which knocked him to the ground,” said Tinkel.

Once Greer was on the ground, “The inmate started to punch him with a closed fist hitting him over 15 times in the face and kicking him a few times then once again hitting him again with a lunch tray,” said Tinkel.

According to court documents, Officer Greer and Boykins exchanged words about an hour before the attack.

“I asked confinement officer Greer to leave the television on for a few minutes, show some holiday spirit,” said Boykins.

Greer then responded “A man is dead because of you, wares your holiday cheer.”

“You hear about it happening in other cites and things of that nature people don't think it can happen here but obviously it does,” said Tinkel.
