Fort Wayne, Indiana (WFFT) - Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry and Angola Mayor Richard Hickman gathered today with other public safety officials to call on President Obama and members of Congress to take immediate steps to end what they call a gun violence epidemic that kills 33 Americans every day.

Henry and Hickman are both members of a group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The Organization iis a bipartisan organization with over 800 mayors across the country.

The Mayors proposed three main reforms: recquiring criminal background checks for all gun sales, banning military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and making gun trafficking a federal crime.

The meeting today marks the one-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
