The Indiana State Medical Licensing Board has voted to adopt new pain medication rules. The requirements are aimed to prevent the abuse of addictive pain medications.
Starting December 15th, physicians will be required to use a new drug monitoring system. The hope is to prevent patients from doctor shopping to get multiple prescriptions.
The Board also adopted a new rule allowing the Attorney General's office to better review physicians' prescribing records.
The new rules come from legislation passed in the General Assembly, requiring The Board to make more effective rules for prescribing prescription pain medication.
