We're saluting two Army National Guard soldiers who were recently awarded for their heroic actions.

Sergeants First Class Michael Nice of Bunker Hill and Dustin Gothrup of Yorktown were awarded for their actions after a deadly car accident in 2011.

Both soldiers were attending a funeral in New Castle for a fellow combat veteran when they heard the crash happen at a nearby intersection.

When the 2 soldiers arrived at the scene, 1 car was overturned and the other car was engulfed in flames.

The soldiers extinguished the fire and provided aid to one driver who survived the crash.

Both soldiers were awarded the Indiana Distinguished Service Cross for their courage and sacrifice during the rescue.

We are always taking Hometown Hero Submissions.  If you know a veteran or someone in the military who should be recognized, fill out the form here.
