The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating the death of a one-year-old infant.   The toddler was found unresponsive by paramedics and passed away while being transported to the hospital.

Fort Wayne police say the infant was sleeping in bed with a parent  at their family home on the 1000 block of West Creighton Avenue, when he one-year-old lost consciousness .

The investigation is being treated as a homicide, until detectives can determine otherwise.  The parents were questioned by police.

Jeremy Webb with the Fort Wayne police department says responding to situations involving deceased children is difficult for officers--no matter how experienced they are.

"Even if you've seen a lot of deaths in your career, there's just something that sticks with you when they are children," said Webb.
