We wanted this to be just very reserved, very reflective
Residents held several events around town today to commemorate the 12th anniversary of 9/11. The Fort Wayne Fire Department and Allen County Public Safety held a silent ceremony this evening at the Law Enforcement Firefighters Memorial of Allen County.
Residents were encouraged to place an American flag in the grassy area around the memorial in honor of those who lost their lives 12 years ago. There was no formal ceremony, it was a silent event for the community to come together, remember, and reflect.
Several area firefighters and law enforcement were present at the memorial to honor and remember not only the 403 public safety personnel who lost their lives, but for all those who died 12 years ago.
"We wanted this to be just very reserved, very reflective for the individuals to come out here and acknowledge their appreciation for the law enforcement firefighters all the public service workers and everybody that perished on that particular day," said Chief Amy Biggs with the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
