A daughter made a gruesome discovery today when she stopped by her mother's house. Fort Wayne Police say the woman found a body inside.

Neighbors in the Creekwood subdivision on the northeast side of town say that the area is quiet and safe.

"Mostly just young families (live here), you know single people, you know retired couples. It's why I build out here it's a very quiet, safe area," said neighbor Rebecca Porter.

Fort Wayne Police were called to the home on the 5500 block of Myanna Lane around 1 p.m.

"The daughter couldn't raise her mother, came over and entered the house and saw the female down, deceased inside," said Officer Michael Joyner with the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Officers say Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control removed a dog from inside the home.

"We are through protocol now doing a death investigation because we do not know the nature of the death," said Officer Joyner.

Detectives canvassed the area, asking neighbors for any information about the death.

"Her son just showed up here a little bit ago to see the look on his face and to hear him it's something you never want to see anyone go through," said Porter.

While neighbors are speculating that this was the body of the mother, police are being careful to wait until the body has been identified. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
