A fire Monday morning destroys a north Fort Wayne home while the family was away on vacation.

Fort Wayne firefighters responded to the house fire on Windsor Wood Boulevard just after nine Monday morning.

When firefighters arrived, they say they found flames coming from the basement and the first and second stories of the home.

No one was inside- neighbors say the family is vacationing in Florida.

One neighbor says it was a scary sight.

"When they started coming out of the second story window, that was when I really got nervous. Then I started wondering if it was going to catch our house on fire, so I kind of make a mental list of things to get out... As far as I know, they're on vacation and I feel terrible for them. What a way to come back. So I hope they're ok, i hope their insurance covers everything for them,” says neighbor Chris Shirey.

Fire officials do not know where the blaze started, or what caused it, and are continuing to investigate.
