Entertainer Al Stiles, a performer with a Fort Wayne tie, has died at the age of 91.

The News Sentinel is reporting that Stiles died January 2nd.

Stiles worked with stars like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sammy Davis Junior.

Stiles owned a shoeshine shop in Fort Wayne called Al Stiles' World's Best Shoe Shine on East Wayne Street and worked to teach inner-city kids about theater and performing.

In 2002, Stiles was declared a living legend by the Apollo Theater.  A tap-dance prodigy even as a child, was drafted after the outbreak of World War II and was sent to Baer Field (now Fort Wayne International Airport).

He liked our city so much that he decided to stay and raise his family after marrying in 1944.
