With all the lakes across Indiana, Ohio and Michigan-
Boating is ingrained in the culture of our region.

Many of those products are made right here.

It's this week's Locally Made Monday.

Dowco makes parts for the power sports industry.

And here at its Fort Wayne plant, local workers create many of the parts that go on your pontoon boats.

Facilities manager Scott Passwater says Dowco is proud to operate in northeast Indiana.

"This is a good area for recreational boating. There are a lot of boat manufacturers in northern Indiana, southern Michigan. The thing that brought us here was Harris float boat, Harris pontoons, located right here in Fort Wayne," Passwater says.

Dowco opened a factory here in 2010, making canvas covers and aluminum frames for boats.

In two years, they grew.

"There was just nine of us to start. We had a ten-thousand square foot facility, and within two years, we outgrew that so we started a search and found this building- forty-thousand square feet," Passwater says.

And most of it is made by hand, not automated machines.

"Since then, we went from thirteen or fourteen, now we're up to twenty-six or twenty-seven employees. So we've almost doubled since we've moved here," Passwater says.

Passwater says the future looks bright-because of the local impact.

"Obviously with us growing, we've been able to add additional jobs. Keep the business and the work right here in Fort Wayne. Help support Fort Wayne business," Passwater says.
