It's Friday, and Weatherman Versus Food is back.
This week- a special competition at a Fort Wayne IHOP restaurant they call 'The Pancake Bowl.'
People have been qualifying all this past month for a chance to compete.
WFFT’s Andrew Logsdon has more in this week's Weatherman Versus Food.
These four guys are the final contestants competing in IHOP’s Pancake Bowl.
They had unlimited time in the past month to eat as many as they can to qualify for the big event.
Kenneth Edwards ate 26.
"I'm kind of excited, but I'm just really hungry,” says Edwards.
James Malcolm pounded 29.
"I've done like little things with my friends here and there, but I've never really, like, nothing organized like this,” says Malcolm.
Dee Blair flattened 35.
"I expect thirty, to knock down thirty,” says Blair.
Gene Hovis gobbled 30.
"I just nibbled all day long to keep the stomach with food in it, but not empty,” says Hovis.
This time, they have twenty minutes.
"All the top contenders out of the three Fort Wayne locations are going to compete in a timed contest, and the top winner gets a five hundred dollar gift card,” says IHOP general manager Melissa Merrill.
So now, they butter up.
All four start fast and furious, with the next stacks of five already coming out.
"Ok, so they got five."
The time goes fast... And they start to slow down.
"This is thirty-three, for these two, if they finish them."
The race comes down to James and Dee syruping it out.
And it comes down to the final seconds...
With Dee edging out James 33 1/2 pancakes to 33.
Dee takes home the gift card and the glory.
"Did you have any idea you could do that?" I ask.
"No, I didn’t think I could do it. My goal was thirty, but yea, just had to keep going, had to keep going,” Blair says.
It's great watching some of you eat in those.
Now, we need more of you.
