It has been the main bite of this year's Three Rivers Festival- the inaugural Coney Island Coney Dog Eating Contest.
Last week, we brought you the qualifying round.
Now, the top ten battle it out to be named the Coney Island Grand Champion.
It’s this week's Weatherman Versus Food.
It's an iconic part of our region.
Coney Island is celebrating 100 years.
And Friday- many have fought to be here.
"We're pretty excited. We've got ten people down from a hundred of the heats that we did at deer park, and we're excited to see what they can do for our inaugural hot dog eating contest,” says Coney Island co-owner Jim Todoran.
And it's a big one.
"It's how many hot dogs you can eat in ten minutes!"
The person who eats the most wins the trophy, their name on the plaque, and a year's worth of free coneys.
The ten contestants all earned their spot by eating ten coneys in under five minutes.
They line up.
"Here come the coney dogs!"
Fully dressed and ready to meet their demise.
"Go! Here they are with ten minutes, how many can they eat?"
Nearly everyone starts out strong- dropping wiener after wiener.
"They're going strong right here!"
But ten minutes is a long time.
"One minute left."
One hot dog stands on top of all the other hot dogs.
And in the end, Alex Choinski crushes the entire field by eating nineteen coney dogs!
He wins all the prizes and all the adoration and respect.
Today- he's the top dog.
And the year's worth of coneys?
"I've got a plan for those hot dogs,” Choinski says.
