The year Vera Bradley Sale as started and it's one of the largest events to come to Fort Wayne. All of those shoppers are giving the Fort Wayne economy a big boost.

Thousands of shoppers came to the Vera Bradley Outlet Sale and spent a lot of money.

"1750."

"It's about $1400."

Vera Bradley isn't the only thing shoppers will be spending money on.  Shopper Tina McGinn explains.

"We like to shop at the Jefferson Point Mall and of course eat out.  We like to eat out at some restaurants that we don't have back in the Indianapolis area."

Visit Fort Wayne says the event brings an extra $6.5 million dollars to the area.  Rental car places tell WFFT they see at least a 10% increase in sales this weekend and restaurants get a boost too.  Don Hall's General Manager Fred Schroeder says this sale is one of their busiest weekends.

"We bring in extra staff for it, because depending on the time of day, they are early morning, afternoon, early evening, but yes, we see a definite uptake."

Greg Boyles is the Operations Manager at the Towneplace Suites and says this is their busiest time of the year.

"We are full nearly everyday.  We are looking to sell out tonight.  It's just amazing the number of women that come here for the sale, it's staggering."

Boyles says rooms start to book 6 months before the sale, and McGinn knows that first hand.  She's headed back to Indianapolis and will have to switch hotels when she comes back with more friends later.

"We're staying a couple of nights at a different hotel and then we're staying another night at this hotel.  The hotels book up around here so you have to strategize on where you're going to stay."

McGinn and her friends will continue to boost the Fort Wayne economy this weekend.

"More Vera, we're going to go to the spa and get massages, of course eat out and then shop shop and shop some more."

The sale continues through Sunday and will continue to boost Vera Bradley sales as well as the Fort Wayne economy.
