Two local high school students were awarded scholarships for their interest in aviation.

The event took place inside the Sweet Aviation Facility at the Smith Field Airport.

Rigel Jaquish and Andrew Griffith both won $3,000 scholarships from the "Smith Airfield Forever" Program.

Both teens are completing their ground schooling and will soon being in-flight training.

WFFT spoke with the recipients to learn more about their career goals.

You might recall, just over 10 years ago, the airport was on the verge of closing before many local supported helped save Smith Field.
