Thousands Help Clean the Community

Locals participate in the Great American Cleanup.
Thousands of locals participate to cleanup the greater Fort Wayne community. It's part of a national effort called the Great American Cleanup. This year more than 5,300 people signed up in 250 different groups. WFFT caught up with a few groups around town.

Participants were suited in garden gloves, boots, and bright green shirts that read "Keep America Beautiful." Groups were given trash bags to fill along their stretch of road assigned by the city. Some routes were as long as one mile. Altogether, the volunteers covered thousands of miles throughout Fort Wayne. The city expects 200,000 pounds of debris to be collected.
