The Steuben County 911 Call Center is partnering with Frontier Communications to get a system upgrade.

In March, Steuben County Sheriff Tim Troyer claimed the call center was understaffed and needed new leadership from his department. Currently, the 911 call center is operated under the County Commissioners with help from the Sheriff's Department.

911 dispatchers in Steuben County are moving into the digital age with a new program called Solacom.

Ken Lowden started the Steuben County Communications Department in the early 90's and is currently the Dispatch Director. In the last month he's hired several new employees to keep the communications department on top of call volume.

With the new upgrade, Dispatchers will also be able to answer both 911 and administrative calls on the same system, making their work more efficient.

Starting in the next couple of months, Hoosiers will be able to text 911 dispatchers in an emergency.
