"I've really been waiting a long time to see if anybody wants me..." -Demetrius, about waiting for a Big Brother
Demetrius is eleven years old and already knows he wants to be a firefighter when he grows up. Thanks to help from the Fort Wayne Fire Department, he was able to get a special tour.

"Because they save people."

This is one reason that Demetrius wants to become a firefighter. He knows he likes to help people, and this is the career he plans to pursue. The firefighters from Station 7 pulled out the truck and even let Demetrius try on some of the gear they wear when going into action. To become a firefighter, Demetrius knows he needs to do well in school, and says so far, so good!

"Sixth grade is really becoming fun and awesome," he said.

His favorite subjects are science, social studies, and reading. When he's not reading school books, Demetrius like to read comic books; he loves superheroes!

"Flash, Hulk... everybody!"

But Demetrius doesn't need another fictional character in his life, he needs a Big Brother.

"I've really been waiting a long time to see if anybody wants me," he said.

It's been about a year since Demetrius has been back on the waiting list. Yes, back on the list. He had a Big for a little while, before he... disappeared.

"Outta nowhere he got lost and I don't know where he [went], and now he's not my Big Brother, and I want to have another one."

He has lots of great ideas about what he and a Big could do together.

"We can go to a restaurant and eat together, we can go to an arcade and play games or go to a museum of old cars and go over to his house and watch T.V. and play ball with him."

A Big Brother could help Demetrius fulfill his dreams and set him on the right path to achieve his goal of becoming a real life hero, a firefighter. To learn more about becoming a Big to Demetrius, call Big Brothers Big Sisters at 456-1600.
