Security Update from Sochi Olympics

Update on security concerns from Sochi Olympics following Opening Ceremony.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - The greatest security concern for the Sochi Olympics is behind us. The opening ceremony went off without a hitch Friday but now attention turns to keeping the athletes and spectators safe for the next two weeks.

National Security Expert Tom Panuzio stopped by Good Morning Utah and ABC4 Utah Midday to discuss security.

Panuzio says the biggest threats now will be for events outside the so-called "ring of steel".  That's the area where the opening and closing ceremonies take place, and where many of the big events happen.

But, there are events that happen outside that area.. for instance the snowboarding and ski jumping events.  Panuzio says athletes and spectators will have to travel by bus or trains to get to those areas.  That's where the security will be focused.

There are thousands of U.S. military members in Sochi to help with security.
