You've been in Downtown Fort Wayne over the past few weeks as festival season has kicked off and one of the most popular and probably one of the messiest has just begun! Ribfest 2014!

Ribfest runs through Sunday and it's $7.00 to get in and $5.00 for students.  You can see a band rocking away the night on stage and of course there is always all those award winning ribs.

WFFT sent Tara Petitt to Headwater's Park to take in the sights and sounds and even some of the tastes.

Thursday was day #1 of the 17th Annual Ribfest in Downtown Fort Wayne's Headwater's Park.

"This is probably my 3rd or 4th time.  I usually come down for the festivities in the evenings but I'm on my lunch break from Wayne Township Trustees Office so we decided to come over for lunch."

"My ribs are lip-smacking, tongue teasing, belly rubbing, bone licking good!"

Anthony Nichols and his Texas Pit Barbeque has won hundreds of trophies across the country for their award winning ribs.

"We travel all over the northeast, we go to North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia."

Their secret?

"The smoking sauce, I can't tell you the recipe."

"We've been ribbing since 1986, and we've been in Fort Wayne since 1999."

Amber Amstutz and Jack on the Bone came from Masselon, Ohio.  The past 2 years, they've been runner-up for cooking the best beef brisket.

"We have a family recipe, special with the rib rub and then we have the barbeque sauce on top and what's special is that we spray Jack Daniels ."

For every vender, it's all about the sauce.

"We make our own sauce from scratch.  We cook em real low and slow, got a special rub, been doing this for about 17 years so just a lot of patience and a lot of love going on."

"You can't beat the ribs down here and along with the macaroni and cheese and coleslaw, it's really good.  It's a fun day for us."

If you missed out on the food and fun, you can still stop by Headwater's Park Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the festival.  It's free til 5:30pm and after that it's $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.
