The tragedy at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas has ties to northeast Indiana. Early Thursday, a car plowed into a crowd, killing two people and injuring 23 others. Two of the victims were from Garrett, IN.

Jamie West, 27, was killed in the crash and her husband, Evan West, 28, was critically injured.

"We feel the love and appreciate everything that everybody has done for us in the Garrett community and also the community of Austin," said Beth Noel, Jamie's sister. Beth says she chose to hold a memorial Friday night at the Garrett Museum of Art, where her sister Jamie west used to work.

Police say Rashad Owens, 21, was drunk and trying to flee officers when he drove the wrong way down an Austin city street, plowing through barricades, into a crowd of people outside of a bar.

"She won all kinds of awards all over the state for her artwork. She brought joy to everyone and everything," said Jamie's former art teacher Mark Ober. "I've been teaching for 38 years and she was one of just a handful that I will never ever forget."
