A pedestrian is dead after crossing a busy road Saturday night in Fort Wayne.

The man was walking across Coliseum Boulevard near Lake Avenue when he was struck by two cars.

Police tell WFFT Local News this type of accident occurs too often because people are ignoring simple rules like wearing bright clothing at night when walking or riding a bike. This accident should serve as a reminder because it just cost a man his life.

Coliseum Boulevard, also known as highway 930. Its frequent non stop traffic with fast moving cars. Saturday around 10:30pm, two of those cars struck a pedestrian.

"The victim stepped into traffic and walked into the path of a vehicle that was traveling southbound on Coliseum.  Witnesses reported after being struck by the first vehicle, the victim attempted to stand up at which point he was struck by another vehicle."

First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Officer Anthony with FWPD says both the drivers involved in the accident have been tested for alcohol and so far that has not been a factor. Police want to remind people that if there is a sidewalk or cross walk, to use it and to always, always wear reflective clothing.
