Not Too Late to Mail Your Tax Return

Even though taxes are due, it's not too late to mail your returns as WFFT has some last minute tax advice from the professionals at H&R Block.
Even though taxes are due, it's not too late to mail your returns as WFFT has some last minute tax advice from the professionals at H&R Block.

Last minute filers are mailing their returns according to the US Postal Service.

Taxes must be postmarked by April 15th.  Most post office locations close by 5:00pm but some locations will stay open late on tax day.

At H&R Block, tax preparers like Cheryl Bacon are still meeting with customers.

"Do a lot of people file extensions to file?  When is the deadline to do that?"

Turns out that if you don't owe a tax refund and you don't file on time, you won't get hit with a penalty but if you do owe, you'll pay a fine for filing late.  These penalties will grow for each month after the deadline that you are late.

If you owe money, consider adjusting your withholding amount on your W-4.  You don't have to follow the sheet.  Do a 1 or a 0.  After a return is filed, it usually takes the IRS 5-7 weeks to deposit your check or issue a tax refund.

A reminder, identity theft is on the rise.  All it takes is a social security number, a birth date, and a name. Thieves are using that information to file thousands in bogus tax returns.  Contact the IRS Identity Protection Unit, toll free at 1-800-908-4490.
