Residents of Fort Wayne will now how a grocery store completely devoted to natural and organic items as Earth Fare is opening on Dupont Rd.

There are over 30 stores nationally and 2 of those are in Indiana.  WFFT's Brooke Welch takes us on a behind the scenes tour of Earth Fare and talks with management and a nutritionist about the best deals when buying organic.

As soon as you walk through the doors, you can tell Earth Fare is not your average grocery store.  Organic, natural, and local products are the only items that they sell.

"Earth Fare is a store about providing access to healthy, natural, and organic foods for everyone."

If you're trying to eat an all natural and organic diet, Earth Fare adheres to a very strict food policy about what is allowed on their shelves.

Chief Merchandising Officer, Dorothy Carlow explains, "7 ingredient rules that we go by and our boot list contains over 500 ingredients that we will not carry in our stores.  So basically, we read the labels so you don't have to."

Anytime you are buying organic, Vickie Hadley with the Purdue Extension says it could hit you at the register.

"There are definite reasons why someone is going to choose the organic but again, the cost is going to be a determining factor for some people."

To make healthy eating more affordable, Earth Fare started a campaign in January.  When you see these red arrows, it's their symbol for giving value on everyday staples.

"Some of the products in this program are organic milk, organic butter, organic eggs, and so what we try to do is provide access to everyone so everyone can afford to shop here."

More tips for saving at Earth Fare?  On Thursday evenings you can get up to 6 free kids meals with 1 $5.00 audit purchase. You can also go to their site here for more information and coupons.
