The first reported case of MERS or Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome was reported  here in Indiana.  Health officials confirmed that the patient was over in Saudi Arabia and brought it back to Munster Indiana.

On April 24th the carrier of the disease traveled from Saudi Arabia to London then to Chicago’s O’Hare before taking a bus to Munster, Indiana. He is accordingly being treated according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Fort Wayne Allen county Health Commissioner Deborah McMahon.

“It's a lower respiratory virus that's been around since 2012,” said McMahan.

Health officials say the virus has been found in camels but it's unknown how it's spreading to humans, and it's considered highly lethal --reportedly killing a third of  the people who have gotten ill.

I think these are things that we need to be aware of and alert for but I don't think we need to be panicked,” said McMahan.
