In an effort to reach out to local Fort Wayne businesses, Mayor Tom Henry went on his first business tour of the year.

He went door to door at Covington Plaza and met with local business owners.

WFFT's Rohma Siddiqui followed him along on the tour and brings us more.

Mayor Tom Henry hopes to address any concerns of local Fort Wayne business owners.

"This is the first of a number of business walks that we'll be doing throughout the summer and into the fall.  We try to do this every year.  We pick different business corridors and we spend a couple of hours walking and talking to various business owners to make sure that there are any needs and wants or desires they have that hopefully we'll be able to address them."

The walk lasted about two hours and Mayor Henry made sure he went through the doors of each and every single business on the strip of Covington Plaza.

"We try to make them aware of the Facade Grants that we have, business loans that we have, access to State and Federal programs."

Laura McCrathy has been the Owner of Symmetry, a local boutique on the Covington strip for more than 20 years and says, "I think it's great because I think in this particular type of small city, I think small business is huge.  It's a major part of what's going on and it's really important and having the Mayor behind it is excellent."

Dennis Floyd, Co-Owner of S'Wonderful Interiors has been in Covington Plaza for 4 years and was happy to chat with the Mayor about his business.

"He was here, we met him briefly and he just seemed very concerned, genuinely concerned and interested in any issues that I would have had either with his office of his staff or anything.  He jokingly said, 'I pulled half my staff out of their offices so if you have a concern or need some help with something, please let us know right now', so I thought that was fantastic."

Mayor Henry says he's planning business tours each month from now into the fall at various corridors across the city.
