A drugstore robbery in Angola this morning turned into a high-speed police chase ending with officers taking an armed man into custody after a hostage situation.
WFFT was up in Coldwater, Michigan where the chase ended.
Police say the suspect robbed a CVS in Angola.
Before his arrest, he barricaded himself inside an adult video store just outside Coldwater.
And it took a long standoff with swat members to get him to come out.
"Could have been a lot worse, yes,” says Steuben county sheriff Tim Troyer.
Those are the words of Steuben County Sheriff Tim Troyer after a hostage situation Tuesday afternoon near Coldwater, Michigan.
Michigan State Police arrested an armed man here- at the Lion's Den Adult Superstore.
"Zero injuries, and nobody got hurt, no officers, no suspect, nobody in the store,” Troyer says.
It started at the CVS on North Wayne Street in Angola, where police say the suspect robbed the pharmacy and drove off towards i-69.
"An Angola city officer, being nearby in the area actually witnessed a pretty serious traffic violation right in that immediate area, believed there was a possible potential for a link, and began the pursuit,” Troyer says.
Angola city and Steuben county officers followed the suspect up the freeway- into Michigan- where he finally pulled off at this exit just north of Coldwater- and into the parking lot of the Lions Den.
Inside, he took the female clerk as a hostage and police say he wasn't toying around.
"There were customers in there, the customers went out of the back doors and were taken into custody by some of the perimeter units,” Troyer says.
Coldwater city, Branch County and Michigan state police officers arrived and deployed swat units, and three hours later he surrendered.
Police have not released the name of the suspect, who is currently in the branch county jail facing charges in both Michigan and Indiana.
