A lot of specialty jewelers call our region home.

Tonight, we're taking a look at one that shines a little brighter than the rest.

They can even make a special piece just for you- all made right here in the region.

It’s this week's Locally Made Monday.

Peter Ball founded his jewelry store- Peter Franklin Jewelers - over twenty years ago.

And he says things are just as engaging today as they were back then.

Since 1988, Peter Franklin Jewelers has created custom rings and other pieces.

It started out in the old Pensiger Jeweler building, and today has grown to three area locations.

"We do repairs, we design rings, we cast them, set them, we do everything that anyone could need, pretty much if you need it done, we can do it,” Ball says.

He started working with gold at eighteen, which he says was the family craft.

"That's where being goldsmiths actually, and doing work originally for other jewelers, that was our background. That's always kind of been one of our strong points,” Ball says.

Ball says they do it all inside the basement of their Dupont store- from your ideas onto your finger.

"Sometimes it's just a design that the person had that they loved, and sometimes they've inherited some pieces and they want the sentimental diamonds taken out of those rings and a new piece designed, and that's something that we can do very well,” Ball says.

He says they take those designs, create a 3-D image, then a mold- and his experts can make the exact piece, all the way down to the last gemstone.

Ball says what his staff of 22 loves to work with best is engagement rings.

"Most of the people have been here many, many years, we have a lot of experience in the stores,” Ball says.
