Indiana DNR Reminds You To Stay Safe

Last year, the State had 58 open water drownings and conservation officers are focusing on life jacket enforcement.

DNR Sergeant Patrick Heidenreich says all boats are required to have a life jacket available for each passenger and he says it's important to make sure they all fit ahead of time.

"The big thing with these again, make sure that they're the appropriate size for the intended water.  You can see the difference between the adult large and the youth.  So in addition to the requirement that you have for wearable life jackets, again if the boat is 16 feet or larger, you need the throwable."

The Indiana DNR has boating law handbooks available at every DNR office.  Those boating laws are also posted on their website here.
