Huntington Co. Prepares for Record Floods

“The little river is anticipated to crest at a record high following this rain event.

“The little river is anticipated to crest at a record high following this rain event.

Predictions are:

8:00 pm                moderate flood stage

5:00 am                Major flood stage

7:00 am                record crest

This will be a larger event than last spring’s (April) record flooding.” –B. Keplinger

In addition, Huntington County Emergency Management will begin sandbag operations at 7 p.m.-10 p.m. at the Huntington Street Department and are welcoming volunteers. The next 12-16 hours will be extremely critical for residents in low-lying, flood-prone areas throughout Huntington County and residents need to begin taking preparedness actions to help prevent flood damage (e.g. moving vehicles, clearing storm drains of debris, moving furniture, and securing items that may float away).

If there becomes a need to evacuate, please call Huntington County Public Safety Dispatch for assistance. Huntington County also remains at “Advisory Level Travel Status” due to this high water event.
