South Wayne Elementary School parents received a letter earlier this week telling them that a bus window was shot out.

Fortunately, nobody was on the bus and the driver was uninjured.  According to a letter sent home to parents, staff members heard gunshots earlier in the day.

“It's crazy you know because it's a school and you shouldn’t be around here shooting because there are little kids. Whoever did this you need to chill out there are kids around here,” said Geikous Jones.  His brothers attend South Wayne.

South Wayne student Elizabeth Stone thought the worst when she found out about the shooting.

“When I think about it yeah it does worry me because I care about my friends and I don't want them shot,” said Stone.

South Wayne principal Brenda west wrote a letter to parents that read in part, "There have been no direct threats toward the school, but when such incidents occur in the neighborhood, we will take all necessary steps to maintain a safe environment in our building.”

Students stayed inside during recess and Fort Wayne Police increased its presence during dismissal to ensure the safety of the children.
