Fatal Crash Result of Drunk Driving and Shooting

One local man is in custody on multiple charges after a string of criminal acts.
Currently in custody for a string of events is Jeremy D. Washington of Fort Wayne.

Jason Anthony from the Fort Wayne Police Department was at the scene of the crime. He says shortly after midnight, authorities were called to the Corner Pocket Pub near St. Joe Center Rd. for a possible shooting.

Police say the suspect fired shots at the pub before getting into his car while intoxicated. Washington sped away heading southbound for about a mile until arriving at the intersection of Stellhorn and Hobson Rd. near IPFW where his car collided with that of 17 year old Haley Nellum, a student at Bishop Dwenger High School. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene.

Shortly after the crash a shooting victim arrived at parkview hospital in serious condition. Washington faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, aggravated battery and criminal recklessness causing serious bodily injury.

Also hurt in the crash was the suspect’s passenger. He was admitted to the hospital in serious condition. Police say Washington’s initial hearing is set for Monday, March 31.
