The city of Decatur is 1 of 6 Hoosier communities that have been named as a finalist for the 2014 Stellar Communities Program.
Several state agencies created the program to award Federal and State funding to city redevelopment projects. The city applied for more than $10 million dollars worth of Federal and State funding.
If approved, Decatur government and private donations would fund an additional $4 million dollars for the projects.
An attorney for the City of Decatur says their application focuses on the use of art as a means of economic development.
Finalist communities include Huntington, Marion, Wabash, Mount Vernon, and Nashville.
The 2 finalists who are awarded grants will have 3 years to complete their projects.
