The deadline to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act is March 31st.  That is only a couple of weeks away.

WFFT's Tara Petitt has more on a local group that's helping residents all this month if they have any questions about the sign up process.

The deadline is looming, only weeks are left for people to sign up for health care.  The law orders an "individual mandate" requiring most Americans to have health insurance.  Anyone who doesn't sign up by the March 31st deadline, will likely be required to pay a penalty when they file their 2014 tax return next year.

President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act on March 23rd, 2010.

Obama - "Today, after all the votes have been tallied, today Health Care Insurance becomes law in America."

Since then, there have been dozens of changes to the law, including the deadline for sign ups.

Broken promises from the President, an undecided Congress, and a government shutdown are among several of the reasons why many Americans have been apprehensive about signing up in the Government's Marketplace.

Wagner - "Just this week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that there are and I quote, ' plenty of horror stories being told about healthcare, but all of them are untrue'.  Try telling that to my constituents who are struggling to make it to the 15th and 30th of every month in this tough economy."

Obama - "I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on insurances they got from me.  We've got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them, and that we're gonna do everything that we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as consequence to this."

If you still need to enroll but don't know where to start, Community Action of Northeast Indiana, or CANI, is offering several free information sessions this month.  Applicants are required to bring a photo-ID, plus tax returns from 2012 or 2013.
