Back behind bars, Laporte County Sheriffs Deputies apprehended convicted murderer and prison escapee, Michael David Elliot, this after they attempted to make a traffic stop on a reported, stolen vehicle.

You may have heard about this story as it made national headlines.  As City, County and State Officials from both Indiana and Michigan, searched door to door for Elliot up in LaGrange County, corrections officials say the convicted killer broke out of the Ionia Correctional Facility.

He then carjacked a woman who managed to escape by locking herself inside a gas station bathroom when they stopped for gas in Middlebury, Indiana.

It was there she called 911 from the bathroom.  (Listen to the call in the video.)

Elliot left the woman at the gas station and fled.  Her vehicle was found in Shipshewana and the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Troopers then searched a large area of Shipshewana for most of the day. Some schools were even put on lock-down.

Elliot was serving life in prison after being convicted of killing 4 people in 1993.  Again, Elliot was taken back into custody without incident and is currently in the Laporte County Jail.
