This committee would be made up of 3 members of Henry's administration, 2 city council members, and 2 residents, one chosen by Mayor Henry the other selected by the council.
WFFT Local News spoke with Councilman Mitch Harper after Tuesday's meeting and he believes this idea comes in a response to a lot of public concern on how the legacy money is being spent. Councilman Harper said this is just another layer of government that would blur the lines with council members in the committee and also holding weight on the city council board.
“It’s one thing to have a group of citizens who vet some of the proposals and people with specific expertise. The council members are supposed to represent the citizens and I think it’s better if we don't blur that line," said Councilman Harper.
Councilman Harper said at next week's City Council meeting the committee will be discussed and then could be up for passage the following week.
