Brooke Welch joined WFFT Local news in October 2013 as a Multimedia Journalist.
A native of Berne, Indiana, Brooke graduated from South Adams High School and then majored in Communications with a double emphasis in Broadcasting and Public Relations at Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana.
Brooke's love for journalism really began in high school, as Editor of the yearbook, and then continued to develop in college with the Huntington University newscast. During her time at Huntington, Brooke received cross country, track, and cheerleading scholarships, set the school record for the Steeplechase, and competed at nationals individually and as a team. While very busy with sports, Brooke still made plenty of time for her first love of Broadcasting. Brooke started her freshman year as a reporter, and by her senior year was anchoring the collegiate newscast. Upon graduating from college cum laude, Brooke completed an internship at NBC 33 in Fort Wayne, and then headed south to a small tv station in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
At the station in Tennessee, Brooke anchored the 5:00 and 5:30 newscasts, and in addition, after 6 months was asked to co-host an hour long show called "Inside Anderson County." Brooke gained a lot of experience at the station, and has interviewed everyone from the Secretary of Energy and Senate Majority Leader to entertainment superstars like Johnny Knoxville and Jessica Simpson!
Brooke is extremely excited to be back in the viewing area she grew up watching, and looks forward to telling the stories of the people that live here. If you have a unique story idea, please email Brooke at firstname.lastname@example.org or Brooke Welch WFFT on twitter or facebook for updates.
