Ariel Castro Found Hanged in Prison Cell

Ariel Castro - the man who admitted to holding 3 women inside his Cleveland home for years and torturing them - is dead.  He was found hanged in his prison cell just weeks after he was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in jail.

He was sentenced to life plus 1,000 years for raping and holding captive 3 women in his Ohio home for years.  Now Ariel Castro won't be able to serve out that sentence.  Late Tuesday night, the man whom many describe as a monster, was found hanging from a bed sheet in his prison cell.

Now this lawyer wants to know how this could happen?
"We weren't even permitted to leave glasses with him because the sheriff was afraid he may use them to kill himself.  That was only 60 days ago.  If they did a forensic evaluation with him recently, he should have been on suicide watch."

Castro was not part of the general prison population and prison officials say he was checked on every 30 minutes by guards.  His family says they first learned of his suicide from the media and his cousin says this latest development was perhaps for the best.
"Maybe this is the only way that he will be out of the spotlight.  I think he was just always going to be in the spotlight.  It seemed like everyday some new news report was coming out and I don't think they were ever going to find peace if he was still alive and in prison."

The 3 victims have not yet spoken out about the news but at least one of them wanted him to serve out his prison time.  At Castro's sentencing, Michelle Knight confronted the man who held her captive for 11 years.

"The death penalty will be so much easier.  You don't deserve that.  I spent 11 years in Hell. Now you're Hell is just beginning."
