We are saluting Dakota Wibel, a young man from Huntington who is pursuing a career in the Navy.

"He's just really outgoing and really friendly and basically nice to everyone."

Ashley Bard nominated her boyfriend Dakota Wibel to be a Hometown Hero.  The 2 started dating their sophomore year of high school.  When Dakota graduated in December, he decided to join the Navy.

"We hung out like every day throughout the summer, so it was kind of a change now that he's not here."

Dakota is completing basic training in Charleston, South Carolina, where he is also studying to become a nuclear engineer.

"He has 3 different types of schools that he has to go through and it will be like 2 years before he finishes all of them."

Ashley keeps in touch with Dakota through texts, phone calls, and Skype.  She decided to nominate Dakota for his decision to commit to a career in the military.

"Everyone here in town really likes him.  He's just a good kid so I think it would be a really good honor for him to be recognized for that."
