"If we want to be able to hunt and enjoy the outdoors, we've gotta preserve our natural resources and animals are a part of our natural resource."
The Fort Wayne Izaak Walton League has been serving the community since 1924.  The national organization serves Outdoor Sportsmen and also educates children and adults about conservation and the outdoors.

This league is going green and teaching others how to do the same.

"This is probably one of the best kept secrets in Allen County out here."

The Izaak Walton League is a national organization which serves not only it's outdoor enthusiasts but also the environment.

The Fort Wayne Chapter is located in Huntertown, which spreads across more than 200 acres of natural land.

"This particular chapter was started in 1924."

Chuck Jordan is the President of the Fort Wayne Chapter.  He has lived by this preservation and been a part of the Izaak Walton League his entire life.  Jordan says part of the purpose of the Chapter's existence is to spread the word about the importance of conservation.

"If we're gonna preserve nature for our children and our children's children, and for many generations beyond us, it's real important that we take certain stands on different issues that can affect the environment and actually ruin the environment."

This non-for-profit takes on several different projects throughout the year, including their conservation camp for children.  One of the most recent projects aims at protecting and preserving the white tail deer heard, which is declining rapidly in Indiana.

"If we want to be able to hunt and enjoy the outdoors, we've gotta preserve our natural resources and animals are a part of our natural resource."

Besides providing a rifle and pistol range, an archery range, and a beautiful pond for fishing and thousands of feet of hiking trails, the Fort Wayne Izaak Walton League also provides an environment where kids and adults can learn about the outdoors, nature, and conservation.

"We just love this area, it's beautiful and we're proud to be a part of it."
