It's been talked about all summer, and the Frankes told WFFT Local that it would happen by this next season.

The k's announced Tuesday that they have formed an affiliation with the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters for the upcoming season.

What does this mean? It means the Komets now have a direct line to advance.

David Franke, VP/GM of the Komets said, "This gives our players a direct path the the AHL, which every young player wants a chance to play at the highest level and now those players in Fort Wayne will have that opportunity. It's been quite a while since we've had an affiliation but as I've said over the years many times that if we found the right people to get affiliated with we would."

The Komets open up the season October 17th, on the road against the Indy Fuel.
